Biography

Benedetta Lanfranchi is a world philosopher based in Rome and specialized in comparative philosophy.

Trained in Anglo-European philosophy, Lanfranchi specialised in African philosophy during her PhD at SOAS, University of London, and has been teaching political theory and ethics at universities in the UK, Germany, Uganda, and Italy since 2014.

She is author of Philosophies of Justice in Acholi (2025), co-editor of Critical Conversations in African Philosophy (2022), and is currently writing her second monograph entitled Digital Intellectuals: Fighting for Freedom in Uganda. She is also currently editing a Special Issue of Theoria with colleague Claudia Favarato entitled Digitality The Maker of (New?) Political World Orders dealing with ethical and political dilemmas pertaining to 4IR and AI.

Benedetta previously held positions at SOAS, University of London, the Makerere Institute for Social Research (MISR) in Kampala, and the University of Bayreuth. She is a member of the Editorial Board for the Africa volumes of the Outline of the History of Philosophy with Schwabe Verlag publishers.

Biography

Cecilia Wainryb's work explores how children and adolescents make sense of interpersonal and group conflict situations, especially the types of conflicts in which one or both parties feel hurt or mistreated. She is particularly interested in how the specific ways in which children interpret these experiences both affect their actual behavior in conflict situations and further their moral development. She has studied this process by interviewing children about hypothetical conflict situations (Shaw & Wainryb, 2006; Wainryb, Shaw, Langley, Cottam & Lewis, 2004; Komolova & Wainryb, 2011) and, also, by eliciting children's narrative accounts of their own conflict experiences (Wainryb, Brehl, & Matwin, 2005; Pasupathi & Wainryb, 2010a; Recchia, Wainryb, & Pasupathi, in press; Wainryb & Recchia, forthcoming-a).

"Conflicts that result in harm, hurt feelings, and unfairness are part and parcel of children's everyday lives, and therefore integral to normative moral development. Nevertheless, there are millions of children across the world for whom their everyday social and interpersonal experiences involve much more severe forms of violence and injustice, including murder, torture, forced displacement, and extreme poverty. In current work, I ask how children make sense of such extreme instances of interpersonal and group harm, and how their subjective interpretations of these experiences further - or hinder - their moral development (Recchia & Wainryb, 2011; Wainryb & Pasupathi, 2008; Wainryb & Pasupathi, 2010; Wainryb, 2010). Current studies include groups of children and adolescents displaced by civil war (e.g., in Colombia; Posada & Wainryb, 2008;Wainryb & Pasupathi, 2010) and tribal wars (e.g., in Papua-New Guinea; /_resources/documents/people/wainryb/wainryb-political-violence-and-disruptions.pdf), children from refugee communities relocated in the United States (e.g., from Bosnia; Pasupathi & Wainryb, in preparation), and even groups of children and adolescents who were themselves recruited into armed groups and served as child soldiers (e.g., in Colombia; Wainryb, 2011), as well as children and adolescents living in violent communities in the United States (Wainryb, Komolova, & Florsheim, 2010).

"As I take a developmental perspective on all of these questions, I also consider in my research the possible developmental constraints that might operate on children's understandings of their social experiences. For example, how do 3-year-olds, as compared to 10- or 15-year-olds, make sense of conflict situations in which they are directly involved? How do differences in their social-cognitive abilities, narrative abilities, and theories-of-mind affect their understandings? (Wainryb & Brehl, 2006; Pasupathi & Wainryb, 2010b).

"Finally, it is important to consider that whenever children make sense of their experiences with conflict, they necessarily engage in negotiations with their culture's available frameworks for interpretation. I have written extensively, from a developmental point of view, against the individualism/collectivism distinction. In my view, that sort of characterization of culture conceals the varied experiences of individuals within cultures, ignores systems of inequality within societies, overestimates the power of culture to dictate meaning, and underestimates the ability of individuals (including children) to make sense of their own experiences. In the research I have conducted in the Middle-East and South-America, I have advocated a shift away from a focus on the cultural patterning of development to a focus on the diverse experiences of persons within their cultures. Such a focus, in my view, acknowledges that cultures are made up of individuals who reflect on their culture's values and traditions, accepting some and rejecting others. It also acknowledges that the ways in which people make sense of their culture's values and traditions are seriously impacted by the power inequalities that are part of most cultures (Wainryb, 2004; Wainryb, 2006; Wainryb & Recchia, forthcoming-b)."

Professor Tehezeeb Moitra, PhD, is based in Naples, Italy. She works both at Universita' Suor Orsola Benincasa in Naples and at �鶹��Ƶ. Moitra holds a Ph.D. from L'Università degli Studi di Napoli L'Orientale; Masters degrees in English Literature from Saint Louis University, Madrid Campus and Contemporary Art from the Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London; her Bachelor's degree was obtained from Oberlin College in Ohio.

Professor Moitra's research interests include Postcolonial Studies, Cultural Studies, Linguistics and Gender Studies on which she has several publications.

Biography

Dr. Silvia Loreti has taught art history at AUR since 2024. She is a modern art scholar and curator whose research focuses on the European avant-garde, cultural history and the relationship between the socio-political conditions of creativity and their impact on notions of tradition, identity, and difference. Prior to joining AUR she taught at The University of Manchester, The Courtauld Institute of Art, London and IMT School of Advanced Studies, Lucca.

Dr Loreti received her BA, MA and PhD from The Courtauld Institute of Art, London, with support from the Accademia dei Lincei and The British Academy. She was postdoctoral research associate at the Centre for the Study of Surrealism and its Legacies (The University of Manchester, the University of Essex and Tate Modern, 2009-11) and postdoctoral fellow in Analysis and Management of Cultural Heritage at IMT Lucca (2012-13). She was Assistant Curator in the department of Painting and Sculpture at The Museums of Modern Art, New York (2013-14), scientific committee member for the exhibition Picasso: Between Cubism and Neoclassicism, 1915-1925 (Scuderie del Quirinale, Rome, 2017) and assistant curator for Picasso. The Sculpture (Galleria Borghese, Rome, 2018). She authored the Giorgio de Chirico entries in the catalogue raisonné of the Cerruti Collection, Castello di Rivoli (Allemandi, 2021) and contributed critical essays to landmark exhibitions, such as Modern Antiquity: Picasso, de Chirico, Léger, Picabia and the New Classicism (Getty Villa, Los Angeles and Musée Picasso Antibes, 2012) and Préhistoire: un énigme moderne (Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, 2019). Biography

Rocco Anelli is an Italian filmmaker, producer, writer, and director based in Rome. He is the founder and CEO of Intermezzo Srl, an independent production company working across development, production, and distribution of cinematic and audiovisual works, with a focus on emerging talent and festival-oriented projects. His work as a director and screenwriter has been presented at major international platforms and festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival (Short Film Corner), the Venice International Film Festival, and the Rome Film Fest. His films include Se fossi uomo (2021), Pier Paolo morto e risorto (2022), winner of the Apulia Film Fund, Vivremo nelle pareti (2024), winner of both the Apulia FIlm Fund and the SIAE “Per Chi Crea” award, and Animalia (2025). Alongside his directing work, he has produced several short films that have circulated internationally, including Sette settimane (dir. Enrico Acciani), presented at the Cannes Short Film Corner and at multiple festivals.

In parallel with his audiovisual practice, he is also a published author. He has published the novel I bagnanti and the essay La costruzione triadica dell’immagine, a theoretical work that explores the processes of image creation through a triadic framework that brings together body, matter, and sound.

Alongside cinema, he is active as a stage director in opera and theatre. His work includes productions of Tosca in Puglia and Basilicata, Rigoletto in Lombardia and Basilicata, as well as La Traviata and other theatrical works, reflecting a broader engagement with prose performance and musical dramaturgy.

For the past several years, he has been an Adjunct Professor of Film at �鶹��Ƶ, where he teaches courses such as Film Directing, Introduction to Filmmaking, and Video Essay Workshop. His teaching combines theoretical reflection with hands-on practice, often integrating the Roman film industry ecosystem into his courses through on-site visits and collaborations.

His research and creative interests focus on the intersection between cinema, poetic language, and visual experimentation, with particular attention to the expressive potential of the short film form. He is also actively engaged in industry practices ranging from production logistics to festival strategy and distribution.

Rina Rachel Sondhi is an experienced educator, international education consultant, and author with over 35 years of experience in teaching English and training teachers across the UK, Europe, Asia, the USA, UAE, and Russia.

Rina Rachel is an adjunct professor in Rome, Italy, teaching English at both John Cabot University and �鶹��Ƶ. Additionally, she is the School Principal at the British School of Orvieto, an international education and training institution.

Education: She graduated with a degree in English Language Studies and Drama from the University of Sheffield, holds a Master’s degree in English and Linguistics in Education from the University of Surrey, and is a qualified Principal (NPQH) from the National College of School Leadership.

She has collaborated with over 40 staff teams and assisted in developing literacy and Cambridge curricula and creative writing programs across more than 90 schools internationally, including projects in the UK, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, China, Sri Lanka, Russia, and the US.

Biography

Mei Chen Tseng was born in Hualien, Taiwan, and has always cultivated a deep passion for literature and art, two worlds that are inseparably intertwined in her artistic vision. Her academic path began with a degree in English Literature in Taipei, but a desire to engage directly with the cradle of the Renaissance led her to Italy, where her artistic voice fully took shape. Settling between Florence and Rome, she completed studies in Painting and Printmaking, ultimately dedicating herself to the technique of wood engraving on end-grain wood. Under the guidance of master engraver Francesco Parisi, Mei Chen discovered in this demanding technique — which requires the use of burins on extremely hard wood — her ideal language, transforming the resistance of the material into a true “dialogue with matter.” Her artistic research, influenced by a Taoist vision of the world, begins with a reflection on light and shadow, understood not only as technical elements of wood engraving — positive and negative — but also as metaphors for a philosophical vision in which the engraved mark becomes a threshold between the visible and the invisible, presence and emptiness, the resistance of matter and the lightness of creative breath. From the study of Western art derives a certain naturalistic rendering of landscape and space, often filtered and transformed through concept, memory, and personal experience.

Her work has been presented in numerous exhibitions in prestigious venues, marking important stages in her artistic development. From her early solo exhibitions in Italy, such as Wood Engraving Between Two Worlds at the Embassy of Taiwan to the Holy See in Rome, she went on to participate in major international exhibitions, including the 75th Annual Exhibition of the Society of Wood Engravers at Bankside Gallery in London. In recent years, her work has been featured in exhibitions such as Immediati dintorni at the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica in Rome and Philosophical Dialogue between Lights and Shadows at Helios Gallery.

In 2024 she presented the solo exhibition Viaggi Incisi at the Società Geografica Italiana in Rome, while in February 2026 she inaugurated The Great Image Has No Form at Aleandri Arte Moderna. She has also been invited to participate in the XII edition of the Premio Sciascia.

A member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, and a fellow of the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venice and Kala Art Institute, she also founded the Mei Chen Tseng Printmaking Studio in Rome and the Burin Studio in Taipei.
